This manhwa (Korean comic) is a beautifully told Cinderella story, in which the “happily ever after” is not so happy…at first.
Jay Jin is in a hotel lobby when the flash of polished metal rolling across the floor catches her eye. She picks up the loose object in time to see a devastatingly handsome foreigner chasing it. Picking it up, she discovers that it is a ring, which she hands back to the man with a smile.
It is that smile which Jarte, heir to the throne of the city-state of Roinne, can’t get out of his head. He begins his quest, sending out messages to the places in Korea where he encountered her, to find Jay Jin. When at last they are reunited, Jarte tells her who he really is and confesses his love to Jay. He asks for her hand in marriage and offers to take her away to his kingdom- on his own private jet, no less- where se will become his queen. Initially, Jay rejects him! It is then up to Jarte to learn how to win the heart of a common girl; one who can’t be bought by his class status or tempted with expensive baubles. Eventually our price succeeds in getting Jay to agree to come live in his castle, where he makes every attempt to win her heart and earn her love. But Jarte also harbors dark secrets, and Jay is frightened of who he becomes when the ghosts of his past begin to surface.
The art of “100% Perfect Girl” is breathtaking, and the storyline so brilliantly develops along with the characters that the drama of each volume will compel readers to continue until the last page of the last book has been turned.
